about

"Recently I had the pleasure of checkin’ out the die-but album from doom drenched New York City rockers LUCIFER JONES, and man-o-man does it ever shove a giant studded boot of full on heavy sonic disruptions straight into yer hear holes (and believe me, that is not an easy fit).

Born from the ashes of Neo-horror punk outfit THE VON FRANKENSTEINS (who I did a few illos for back in the day…yup, I do arcane art as well), LUCIFER JONES is an entirely different beast all together. If someone asked me to describe the band’s sound, the closest thing I could come up with is; imagine if SAMHAIN and VENOM were one group and they decided to make a BLACK SABBATH album after marathoning early Abel Ferrara (there he is again) films.

As you can imagine, this is not an overly cheery fun-time album. It deals with addiction, spilled blood, and a city that is for all intents and purposes is a hideous, life energy sucking vampire that uses up those who live within it and turns a deaf ear to their suffering…but damn the tunes are catchy though! They are also surprisingly diverse too…you get doom drenched tracks, tracks that really lay down that one of a kind NYC punk vibe…hell, there are even moments that echo the sleaze rock of early era Guns n’ Roses. As varied as those influences may be, they blend together beautifully to create a foreboding sense of a New York that definitely once was, and could possibly be again at a moment’s notice (i.e. somewhere you should ne’er go unless you understand the consequences of letting your guard down).

I really dig the entirety of this one, but if I had to pick my two favs they’d be; Vampire City (a little ditty that emphasizes that sense of the city being a living, hating creature with a sonic assault that blends sleaze and early Venom with equal aplomb), and Built to Burn a full on metal assault akin to a shotgun blast to the face.

I really loved this album, and if you dig any of the bands mentioned within this review, I’m willin’ to bet you will too."

about

Lucifer Jones Sleepy Hollow, New York

Born in the city that never sleeps, Lucifer Jones is a mixture of the worst in humanity and the best in music.

Sonically, Lucifer Jones is a cross between Black Sabbath and Black Flag...alternating speed-demon punk and hardcore between strung out slabs of doom that tell stories of loss, drug abuse, murder and the hopelessness of the modern condition.
